About Teri Jones

“Viewing Teri's artwork is like recanting the memory of a beautiful scene, the best of the experience is brought to life where skies are brilliant blue, bougainvilleas burst with color and sunsets are dramatic.”

- Claire

Teri Jones, a St. Thomas resident since April 2003, moved to the islands in search of "warm water and sailing." Previously she had lived in the San Juan Islands of Washington State and the Hawaiian Islands where she states, "I had warm water, or sailing, but not both!" Familiar with the Virgin Islands through family that moved here over 30 years ago, she feels fortunate to call St. Thomas home and is continually inspired by the natural beauty of the landscape along with the climate to enjoy it year-round.

Jones came to the Virgin Islands with a successful ten-year career as a watercolorist, having experiences as an artist-in-residence at Roche Harbor Resort, assisting in watercolor workshops and owning her own gallery. Surprisingly, Jones was reluctant to express herself artistically. Prior to her artistic career, she was a director of a county drug and alcohol treatment center and found herself looking for ways to reduce the stress in her job. A friend had suggested she take up painting for fun. Connecting with her creative expression was challenging and took persistence. "I took a beginning watercolor class three times!" states Jones . She adds, "Now I truly do not believe there is a limit to the creativity that flows out of me, so the more images I create the more images come to mind. This enables me to create a body of work that is reasonably priced to encourage the collection of my work, share my talents and make room for more ideas."

Living her dream, sailing on the s/v Sea Otter, Teri is painting her cruising experience. A love of bluewater sailing, seaside towns, unspoiled back waters, and the quiet times found only in the wilderness, are reflected in the images she shares in her paintings. Teri's new home extends beyond the shores of St. Thomas, you can find Teri painting and teaching as she travels the world.
