David Hill
Artist Statement
Hill says of his work; “The feeling of a memory is often more important than the memory itself. But, what creates this feeling in a piece of art? Sometimes this X factor is a line, a color, a composition, or a combination of all three. “As an artist, I try to search for this X factor in every piece I create by limiting the time I spend in front of the subject. For instance, if I painted a landscape, half of my time would be spent on location, and half would be spent finishing it at home in order to paint what I felt at that moment rather than what I saw.
“My subject matter ranges, but I will always produce imagery in which I have an emotional connection.”
“I was born and raised in the Virgin Islands, and I have traveled and studied art in many different locales including: Boston, Hawaii and Italy. I feel my art reflects these settings.”
